The Cape Wind Energy Project is an excellent example of what can be done now to make the transition to renewable energy production without further significant environmental costs. It will stand as a model of progress by the U.S. in meeting its global obligations to reduce greenhouse gases and a model of leadership and compromise by the residents of Cape Cod to reduce air pollution.

Strong Sea Breeze Again Reported At Cape Wind Site During Time of High Electricity Demand
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BOSTON, MA, JUNE 28, 2010 – This afternoon Cape Wind's Scientific Data Tower on Horseshoe Shoal in Nantucket Sound has been reporting strong winds that would be supplying over 400 megawatts of electricity from clean wind power, if the wind farm were already in operation, during this afternoon's high heat and high corresponding electricity demand.
Thanks to the sea breeze effect, an offshore wind farm in a location like Nantucket Sound will tend to be very productive during hot summer afternoon conditions, when electric demand in the region is at its highest due to increased use of air conditioning.
Cape Wind Communications Director Mark Rodgers noted, "The sooner we can build America's first offshore wind farm in Nantucket Sound, the sooner we can tap into this sea breeze to provide needed electricity, as well as cleaner air, new jobs and greater energy independence."
According to data from Cape Wind's Scientific Data Tower, Cape Wind would have been producing well above average power during eleven of the past twelve record electric demand events in New England. Cape Wind has been collecting wind data from the Scientific Data Tower since 2003.
Cape Wind was approved by U.S. Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar and by the FAA earlier this year and it received its State and Local approvals last year.
